The Querciabella estate stands head and shoulders above the rest and it's as simple as that. This mesmerizingly beautiful wine comes from their Sangiovese vineyards across the Classico zone. Querciabella hasĀ practiced chemicalāfree organic viticulture since 1988, followed by a transitionĀ to biodynamics in 2000. Quercia al Poggio is situated about 400 metres a.s.l. at Monsanto, in the municipality of Barberino Val d'Elsa. Owned by the Rossi family, the property extends over 100 hectares of the woodland nature reserve where vines and olive trees are cultivated to organic farming protocols.
The heart of the winery is a nineteenth-century farming settlement and what was once a monastery belonging to the Vallombrosan brothers from nearby Badia a Passignano. Rich and flavourful, but still fresh and energetic. This is jammy with lots of ripe fruit and both blueberry and chocolate.
