Nikka Yoichi Single Malt is the flagship expression from the Yoichi Distillery, established in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the "father of Japanese whisky." Located on the coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan, the distillery was chosen for its environmental similarities to Scotland. Yoichi is world-renowned for its traditional production methods, most notably being the only distillery in the world that still uses direct coal-fired pot stills. This traditional technique results in a robust, powerful spirit that defines the Nikka house style.

Whisky Description

The whisky presents a bright gold color. On the nose, it is bold and complex, offering a signature balance of mellow peat smoke and briny sea air, layered with notes of candied orange peel and white flowers. The palate is full-bodied and oily, delivering a rich core of toasted oak, nutty cereal, and stewed fruits like yellow plum and peach. A distinct earthy smokiness runs through the experience, accented by hints of ginger and black pepper. The finish is long and satisfying, leaving a lingering trail of herbaceous peat and a salty maritime tang. It is bottled at 45% ABV and is non-chill filtered.
