Chateau De Suronde La Realiste Chenin Blanc 2022

Chateau De Suronde La Realiste Chenin Blanc 2022

Introduction

This fine white wine is from France, specifically the Loire Valley region, and the small, highly regarded appellation of Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru. The wine is produced by ChĂąteau de Suronde, an estate with a rich history that has been a benchmark for the sweetness and complexity of Quarts de Chaume wines.

Chùteau de Suronde's unique terroir is located on the right bank of the Layon river. The estate is celebrated for its commitment to high-quality viticulture, which is essential for producing the noble rot-affected grapes required for this style. The estate practices organic and biodynamic farming methods, focusing on purity and expression of the terroir. The 'La Réaliste' cuvée represents a commitment to showcasing the potential of dry Chenin Blanc from this Grand Cru terroir.

Wine Description

'La Réaliste' is 100% Chenin Blanc, a dry white wine from a parcel traditionally reserved for sweet wines. It is described as a wine of great balance and complexity. It presents a bright yellow-gold colour.

The nose is expressive and precise, offering aromas of white fruit such as quince and pear, along with notes of citrus peel, honey, and a distinct mineral, smoky reduction.

On the palate, it is full-bodied, with a firm structure. The flavours are concentrated, highlighting yellow plum, apricot, and honey. The wine's exceptional character comes from a perfect balance between its depth, richness, and its crystalline acidity, which provides tension and freshness. The finish is long, complex, and marked by a distinct saline minerality. The grapes are harvested from schisty, carboniferous soils in the heart of the Grand Cru appellation. The wine is fermented and aged for about a year in barrels (demi-muids), only 10% of which are new, to preserve the purity of the fruit. The wine offers great complexity, vibrant freshness, and excellent ageing potential.
