Catena Zapata 'Birth of Cabernet' 2021

Catena Zapata 'Birth of Cabernet' 2021

Founded in 1902, Catena Zapata is one of Argentina’s most iconic and pioneering wine producers. Family-owned for four generations, the winery is known for elevating Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon to world-class levels, with a deep commitment to terroir expression and high-altitude viticulture. The 'Birth of Cabernet' bottling celebrates the genesis of Cabernet Sauvignon in Mendoza’s Uco Valley, sourced from estate vineyards at elevations up to 1,500 metres.

Wine Description
This 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon displays a deep ruby hue with violet reflections. Aromas of cassis, black cherry, and eucalyptus lead into nuanced notes of graphite and tobacco. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a core of ripe dark fruit, supported by firm yet polished tannins and a vibrant acidity. The wine shows excellent structure, complexity, and balance, with a lingering finish marked by hints of dark chocolate and dried herbs. Composed entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon, it is expected to evolve beautifully over the next 8–12 years. The wine is certified organic, showcasing Catena’s ongoing commitment to sustainable viticulture.

Accolades
Vinous - 93 points
James Suckling - 94 points

Food Pairing
Pair this Cabernet with grilled lamb chops, herb-crusted beef tenderloin, or aged cheddar. A perfect match to enhance the wine's complexity.
