Bruno Rocca Barbaresco 'Rabaja' 2019

Bruno Rocca Barbaresco 'Rabaja' 2019

The Rocca family and Barbaresco have had an unbreakable bond dating back to 1834. It's no surprise that their aim with winemaking is to showcase this beautiful land and terroir by guiding and nurturing the vines to produce only the highest quality fruit.

This Barbaresco is a beautiful wine expressive of place and passion. Effortlessly elegant in the glass, it boasts aromas of purple florals, flavours of dark wild berries wrapped with subtle spice. Warming, with a lengthy finish and structured tannin - one to contemplate, for sure.

It's a testament to the phrase "age like a fine wine", as this is certainly one that will stand the test of time to the cellar. Impeccable stuff.

96 Points - Decanter

Forget the over-extractions of the past decades; Rabaja from Bruno Rocca is today aged in both barrique and oak vessels, resulting in power and grace combined. The 2019 here is more concentrated and refined compared to the leaner (yet very good) 2018. Restrained aromas of liquorice, tar, black pepper, watermelon intensity and minerality in depth, with a slightly herbal note, are followed by a feminine palate with a peach skin character. The delicacy of the fruit is deliciously woven with lifted tension and very elegant tannins.

95 Points - Vinous

The 2019 Barbaresco Rabaja is quite closed at this stage. There is plenty of energy and drive, but the mid-palate is quite shy. A wine of reserve, the 2019 is going to need time to flesh out. There is plenty to look forward to.
