Ben Marco Cabernet Sauvignon
BenMarco is all about viticulture. Having planted more than 3,000 acres of vineyards across Argentinaâs diverse terroirs, Edgardo âEdyâ Del Popolo, General Manager of Susana Balbo Wines in Mendoza and head winemaker for BenMarco, is Argentinaâs most knowledgeable winegrower. He has tasted almost every piece of dirt!
BenMarco wines are made with minimal intervention to allow for the purest interpretation of whatâs underground on the extreme sites where the grapes for BenMarco are grown. âI try to avoid adding my influence to BenMarco wines,â Edy says. âWhat I really like to see is what the vines can do, without any kind of winemaking influence.â
Edy grows three red wines from three distinct, high-elevation sub-zones of Mendoza: a Malbec from Los Chacayes, a Cabernet Sauvignon from Los Ărboles, and Expresivo, a red blend from Gualtallary. Since the inaugural 1999 vintage, all three wines have consistently received outstanding scores from each of the four leading American wine publications.
BenMarco Cabernet comes entirely from alluvial soils in Los Ărboles, Uco Valley. It is a floral, rich and concentrated wine. On the palate, notes of black fruits, black pepper and cassis are perfectly well balanced with fine grained tannins that give a nice tension to the wine.
